Take a moment to open this time in prayer. Ask God to bless you as you read and reflect on the text.

Please read Revelation 21: 1 - 7

The language and the writing of the Book of Revelation is often a mystery. The writing is at times cryptic and many Bible scholars debate the meaning of various passages in the book. However, this passage from the Book of Revelation is very clear and it should give us an eternal hope. This passage promises us that one day this present earth with all its pain, hurt, disease and sorrow will pass away. In its place will be a new heaven and a new earth in which God will dwell directly with us and there will be no more death, mourning, or pain. Hallelujah, what a great promise for all of us to hold onto in the midst of uncertain times!

Please use the following questions for more reflection.

  • a. Have you ever or do you ever lose hope in life? How does this passage restore your hope?

  • b. In the passage God says that he will make everything new! What needs to be made new in your life?

  • c. How may this passage help bring about a feeling of peace within you?

Closing - Use the prayer below to end the devotion or close in prayer in your own words.

Gracious Heavenly Father, I thank you that one day there will be a new heaven and a new earth. I thank you that you will dwell with us face to face one day and that all will be made new. Lord, help me to remember the promise of this text when I am down and losing hope. Help me to try and bring a little of this vision of a new heaven to fruition in my life every day. Lord let me live in the hope of the promise contained in these verses. Amen.
