Take a moment to open this time in prayer. Ask God to bless you as you read and reflect on the text.

Please read Titus 3: 1 - 11

The Epistle of Paul to Titus, more commonly known as Titus, is another instructional letter that Paul sent to one of his mentees. Paul had left Titus in Crete to help organize and lead that church. Thus, most of the book of Titus is a list of instructions for how Titus should lead the church on Crete. Even though the words that Paul writes were written 2,000 years ago they still apply to followers of Jesus today. The words of Paul may not be easy to live out but imagine what would change in this world if all followers of Jesus took these words seriously even if the words were not lived out perfectly.

Please use the following questions for more reflection.

  • Do you take these words of Paul in this passage seriously or just kind of as recommendations?

  • Of the instructions that Paul writes to Titus which one or ones do you wish he did not write down and wish you could ignore? Pick one of the instructions listed in the text and try to live it out this week.

  • If all followers of Jesus did try and take these words seriously and tried to live them out how would the world change?

Closing - Use the prayer below to end the devotion or close in prayer in your own words.

Gracious Heavenly Father, sometimes the instructions that you give in the Bible seem a little overwhelming. It is hard to live even one of them out let alone all of them. Lord, help me to live as you would have me live and help me each day to become a little bit more like you. Amen.
