Take a moment to open this time in prayer. Ask God to bless you as you read and reflect on the text.
Please read Ephesians 5: 15 - 20
In verse fifteen the text tells us to, “be very careful,” how we live. Then in verse sixteen the Bible says, “the days are evil.” Both of those statements certainly seem to apply directly to life in the world of the Coronavirus. While the days may not be evil it certainly at times may feel that way. Also, most people right now are being very careful how we live in this world. We also may feel irritated and a little more stressed than we normally feel. When we are like this it is easy to not treat others well; especially those closest to us. However, the Bible encourages us to live another way. It tells us to focus on scripture, to sing songs and to give thanks. This is good advice. So, the next time we feel the stress creeping into our lives we should try to stop and take just a few moments to read a sentence or two of scripture, or sing a song, or give thanks to God for all that is going well in our life. If we do this our mood and reactions will probably change.
Please use the following questions for more reflection.
How has your life changed in the world of the Coronavirus? Are you being careful how you live? Do you think the days of evil? How else would you characterize the days in which you are living?
Have you found yourself a little more stressed, or irritated, or agitated during this time? Why is that? How has your behavior changed and how have you treated others around you?
Take just a moment to read some scripture, maybe try Ephesians 3: 14 – 21, or sing a song/hymn, or give thanks to God for what is going well in your life. How do you feel after doing this?
Closing - Use the prayer below to end the devotion or close in prayer in your own words.
Gracious Heavenly Father, the days in which we are living are so different than anything we have experienced before. Because of this we are being so careful how we live and move around. While the days may not be evil the days certainly seem evil or at least a little bit cursed. During this time it is so easy to be distracted and not think about you and what you would have us do. Please Lord, help me and those around me to focus on you so that you may recalibrate our minds and our actions. Amen.
