Take a moment to open this time in prayer. Ask God to bless you as you read and reflect on

the text.

Read Numbers 6: 22 – 27

The passage from the book of Numbers may sound very familiar to you because it is a

commonly used benediction that is used at the end of services. It was a blessing that the

Israelite priests were supposed to give to the people. However, in 1 Peter 2:5 the Bible

tells us that all who believe in Jesus are part of a holy priesthood. Thus, in one sense we

are all priests. Therefore, at this time of uncertainty and fear for some I encourage all of

us to bless people with these words. Give this blessing to your family, friends and

neighbors and actually speak it out loud whether they can hear you or not. We should

also seek to bless people with our actions.

Please use the following questions for more reflection.

  • How has the Lord blessed you throughout your entire life? What does it mean that the Lord would make his face shine on us? How have you experienced the Lord shining his face on you and being gracious to you?

  • How has God given you peace in the past? How can God give you peace today?

  • Who do you need to bless today with the words from Numbers? How can you bless people with your actions? What is one thing that you can do to one person to bless them this week? Do it!

Closing - Use the prayer below to end the devotion or close in prayer in your own words.

Gracious Heavenly Father, I thank you for all the ways that you have blessed us. I

especially thank you for the blessing of your peace and the blessing of your Son Jesus

Christ. In these times we may have forgotten those blessings because we might be

consumed with the immediate crisis but help us to remember that you have blessed us in

the past and will continue to bless us. Lord I also ask that you help us to be a blessing to
