Take a moment to open this time in prayer. Ask God to bless you as you read and reflect on the text.

Read Ecclesiastes 3: 1 - 8

This passage from Ecclesiastes is the most well-known passage from the Book of Ecclesiastes and the sixties rock group, The Byrds made it even more well known when they recorded the song, Turn, Turn, Turn. The passage proclaims the truth that there are seasons of life in our own life and seasons of time for communities. We are certainly in quite a season right now. A season that none of us could have predicated or have ever lived through. But we must remember that this season is not a surprise to God and we also must remember that this season too will pass. Let us pray that this season will pass soon.

Please use the following questions for more reflection.

  • Before this current international season; what season of life were you in? What were the positives about that season and what were the negatives?

  • If you could add to this scripture text what other “seasons,” would you include to the list?

  • What hope does this passage give us?

Closing - Use the prayer below to end the devotion or close in prayer in your own words.

Gracious Heavenly Father, we are in a season that we could not have foreseen or predicted. This season is very difficult and Lord we ask that it will end soon. However, God we know that there are lessons from this season as well. Even though we want the season to end and many are hurting; please help us to not miss what you have to teach us during this season. Amen.
