Take a moment to open this time in prayer. Ask God to bless you as you read and reflect on the text. Read Nehemiah 6: 1 - 4 The Book of Nehemiah is the story of how Nehemiah and other Jewish people returned from exile and rebuilt the wall of the city of Jerusalem. In the text for today the walls are completed except for the gates. Before the gates were set in place the enemies of Nehemiah tried to distract him with a meeting. Nehemiah rebuffed their schemes. I believe that at times God calls each one of us to a great project on his behalf. I also believe that the enemies of God or the Enemy schemes to prevent this from happening. Sometimes all that is needed is just a little distraction to knock us off course. When we are doing something great for God we should do our best not to get distracted.

Please use the following questions for more reflection.

  • What is the greatest project that God has called you to do? (Remember any and every work of God is great.)

  • Did you finish the project? Did you ever get distracted during the project? What distracted you and where did the distraction come from?

  • Is there a great project that God is calling you to do for him? What is preventing you from starting the project? How can you overcome those distractions or difficulties?

Closing - Use the prayer below to end the devotion or close in prayer in your own words. Gracious Heavenly Father, with your help all things are possible. God I thank you for the great project which you have given to me or Lord I ask that you would reveal to me the great project that you are calling me to accomplish. Help me not get distracted by enemies or my own self-doubt. Help me to say no to the distractions so that I may say yes to you. Amen.
