Take a moment to open this time in prayer. Ask God to bless you as you read and reflect on the text.

Read Zechariah 4: 1 - 6

I believe that we often try to solve problems or issues in our life but pure self-well. We just think if we try harder or put in more effort that we will overcome a crisis or situation. While our own effort is important I believe that sometimes we neglect to invite God into our situation. However, this text reminds us to ask the Lord to intervene with the power of the Holy Spirit into our lives. We all could learn to depend more on the power of the Holy Spirit than our own power. If God is offering this help why wouldn’t we accept?

Please use the following questions for more reflection.

  • We often rely on our own power and might to solve an issue. Where did you learn this behavior?

  • Why is it difficult to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit and not our own power?

  • What is one area of your life that you need to let go and trust in the power of the Spirit to help you?

Closing - Use the prayer below to end the devotion or close in prayer in your own words. Gracious Heavenly Father, we have learned from an early age to rely on ourselves. We confess that when we encounter an issue our first response is to rely on our own might and power instead of turning to you. God help me to overcome my initial responses and turn to you and the power of your Holy Spirit in all areas of my life. Help me truly submit all of my life to your Spirit. Amen.
