Take a moment to open this time in prayer. Ask God to bless you as you read and reflect on the text.
Read Ezekiel 37: 1 - 14
The passage in Ezekiel regarding the Valley of Dry Bones is probably the most well- known passage from the book of Ezekiel. The passage was meant to give hope to a people who had been taken away from their homeland. A people who felt defeated, cut off from the familiar and brittle. In response the Lord promises the people that they will return once again to their homeland and feel alive. The Lord will accomplish this through the power of his Spirit. Many of us feel cut off, bored and may even be losing hope but as the Lord brought life into the Valley of Dry Bones he will also return us to live as well.
Please use the following questions for more reflection.
When have you felt like you were just a bunch of dry bones? Do you feel that way now?
How does the Lord accomplish bringing the dry bones back to life? What does this tell us about the power of the Holy Spirit? Do you feel this type of power from the Holy Spirit?
While the time we are in has been difficult what have you learned about yourself and God? When life gets back to normal what will you change about your life? What routines will change for you?
Closing - Use the prayer below to end the devotion or close in prayer in your own words.
Gracious Heavenly Father, the monotony of our current circumstances is draining. The sameness of life is drying me up. God I ask, through the power of the Holy Spirit, that you breathe a new sense of life into me. Lord I ask that I use this time to examine my life so that when life returns to normal that I will not be the same but will have changed for the better.
